1. What is the Compassionate Activist Network (CAN)?

CAN is a community of animal activists who are seeking to do the most good -- and have fun while doing it! With CAN, activists earn credits for their participation in effective outreach. The credits can then be exchanged for prizes from popular vegan businesses, supplies to enhance your activism, or cash.

2. Who runs CAN?

Farm Animal Rights Movement(FARM) runs CAN along with several other campaigns, including the 10 Billion Lives Tour, Meatout, Vegan Earth Day and World Day for Farmed Animals.

3. I don't live in the United States. Can I earn credits?

At this time, CAN is only open to activists located in the United States. Funding for international organizations might be available for high-quality events for Meatout and World Day for Farmed Animals, but other international activities do not qualify for CAN credits. To inquire about getting funding for international campaigns events, contact FARM's International Campaigns Manager at This email address is being protected from spambots. 4. I have an idea for a different type of outreach, can I still earn credits?

Probably not. We have selected what we view as the most effective forms of outreach as those worthy of receiving credits. That said, if you have an idea, feel free to email our Community Action Coordinator at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to run it by us.

5. Can I use another organization's literature for CAN events?

Unfortunately, we cannot award CAN credits for events held that use a different organization's literature. However, FARM has an extensive catalog of literature to use at CAN-approved events, and we will send them to you free of charge once you're approved as a CAN member. To check them out, go to the Get Involved page and click on the brochure images.

6. How do I submit an event report?

Once you are approved as a CAN Member, you will have access to a hidden menu that includes the option to submit a new event. The requirements vary based on the event type. Refer to final steps in the Action Guides for details.

7. I submitted an event report but I wasn't rewarded any new credits. What's up with that?

Credits are awarded after the CAN Manager reviews your report. This can take up to two business days. If you still haven't received credits after two business days, contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

8. If I do the event with another CAN coordinator, can we both receive credits?

It's easiest if you simply split the data and submit two events. For example, if you did a Pay-Per-View event with 124 viewers, you would each submit an event with 62 viewers. If you submit an event that you later decide to split with another coordinator, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we can manually redistribute the credits.

9. What is a CAN credit worth?

If exchanged for cash, a CAN credit is worth 1 cent. Other rewards are a better value. For example, to trade in for a Compassion Company gift card, a credit is worth nearly 1.2 cents.

10. I have never done outreach before-- do you have any tips?

Leafleting is the easiest option for a new activist! It's easy and involves very little planning. Check out the Action Guide for tips on how to get started.

11. I'm not vegan, can I still be a part of CAN?

Learning about veganism and taking personal steps towards a more compassionate lifestyle are important steps towards becoming an effective activist. Please visit 10BillionLives.com to learn about the animal agriculture industry and www.LiveVegan.org for help along the way to veganism!
